Since the clubs conception in late 2007, Carluke Tigers have gone from strength to strength, quickly establishing themselves as the number one Rugby League club in the West of Scotland. The Tigers have just finished their second season in the Rugby League Conference, the top Scottish competition, and finished runners-up after an agonizing extra time Grand Final defeat in August.
The club trains in Carluke but plays at the impressive facilities at Hamilton Palace, and over the first two seasons has had a membership of over 50 players. The club has already began to attract a small but loyal band of supporters, with many friends and family of the clubs members enjoying watching the high paced, ultra physical nature of Rugby League, which has every attribute to create an entertaining spectacle, prior enthusiast or not.
So far all competition has been at senior level, but now the Tigers have began a youth development program, with youths at U-15 and U-17 age levels regularly training at the club. Next year it is hoped the player pools at these age groups will expand, and teams will be entered competitively at regional level.
In the clubs short history international standard players have already began to be produced, with two players being selected for the Scotland Amateur team, and one for the Euro Celts, an invitational European select team, along with the club sporting two former Scotland Amateur players who gained their honors before the Tigers were born. After the teams 2009 performances, many more players are expected to gain amateur and student international honors next season.
With the help of Extreme Nutrition, improving player nutrition and conditioning, the Tigers are looking to go one better in 2010 and be crowned Scottish Champions. A lot of hard work lies ahead to make this a reality, but the Tigers are up for the challenge.
