Chris Pike

Name   Chris Pike
Age      41
Gym you train at and location; Pro Fitness, Claycross, Derbyshire.

Q.1  Why did you start bodybuilding and did you have any goals of competing to begin with?
I’ve been involved with weights since I was 13, initially just as cross training for Rugby but then competitively Power lifting and following injury weight lifting, all that time I’d said one day I’d get in good enough shape to compete, so at 37 I decided if I was going to do it I better do it soon...My initial goals was not to look daft on stage but also set the goal to qualify for a British final as that would mean I’d competed at national level in Powerifting, weightlifting and bodybuilding.

Q.2  What is your current training schedule like? How does it differ between pre-contest and off season?
I’m currently training on a 4-day split; Chest and Biceps, Legs, rest, Back, Shoulders Tri’s and Calves, normally two lighter warm up sets and then a heavy set to failure with forced reps. I also do cardio at least 5 days per week for 30 minutes first thing. Pre contest initially I’ll increase that to 5 days on a 4 day split and do more pre exhaust and super sets, I will change that depending how condition is progressing.

Q.3  How long have you been competing?
At bodybuilding since 2005.

Q.4  What are your main competitive achievements?
Qualifying for NABBA British finals.

Q.6  What weight are you off season and contest time?
Off Season my current high has been 95K, contest time 78K.

Q.7  What are your current competitive goals?
To win a class at a show also finish top 6 in a class at the British finals.

Q.8  Why do you feel you have been able to make continuous gains over the years?
I think because I’ve always had the attitude that whatever I’m trying to achieve I give it everything I’ve got.

Q.9  What supplements do you use?
Various but currently Extreme Build and Recover, and Extreme Liquid Fury along with a good multivitamin and mineral supplement and Vitamin C.

Q.10  How much do you feel supplements and sports nutrition help your training?
I couldn’t train with the intensity I do or recover from the workouts without them.

Q.11  What is it that motivates you through a gruelling workout?
I enjoy the pain and pushing my “comfort zone”.

Q.12  Who, if anyone, do you want to thank over the years for their help?
In the early years Dave Hancock Roy Tilson and Cyril Martin  who trained and inspired me for the Powerlifting. In Bodybuilding I’ve got to thank my wife, Hev for supporting me and all the help she gives me, Andy James for all his help and advice, Steve Brookes for getting me ready for the first few shows and giving me an understanding of what I was doing and why and Doug for giving me the chance to be an Extreme supported athlete and the advice he’s offered since.
