The East Kilbride Pirates, Scotland’s number one American Football Team were formed in 1985, making them the oldest remaining team in Scotland. They have been National Runners up twice and Northern Conference Champions four times.
The team consists of a pool of over 40 players, with ages ranging from 18, right up to veterans who can be over 40. The 2009 Pirates squad contains ten members of the Great Britain Lions and two players who were involved in NFL Europe and the NFL International Players Programme, an invite-only program designed to find and develop the best players in the world.
The British American Football League season runs from May to September, with the Pirates playing their home fixtures at Hamilton Rugby Club on Sunday afternoons. Training begins in January and takes place twice a week. Players also spend considerable time in the gym to maintain the levels of strength, stamina and fitness required for a physically demanding sport. The Pirates are always on the lookout for players, with no experience or kit necessary.
With the rigours of playing at the top level in Britain, the Pirates players take Extreme Nutrition supplements, making a partnership with Extreme Nutrition an obvious and advantageous association.
