Q.1 Why did you start bodybuilding and did you have any goals of competing to begin with?
The main reason for starting bodybuilding was to change my body into something I could be proud. My main goal was to qualify for at least one British final.
Q.2 What is your current training schedule like? How does it differ between pre-contest and off season? Do you do much cardio work?
My current training schedule consists of split body parts: Monday - Delts, Traps, triceps and abs
Tuesday - Chest and Biceps
Wednesday - Quads and Abs
Thursday - off
Friday - Back
Saturday - Hamstrings, Calves and Abs
Training at a high intensity, resting between each set for only a minute, with a workout usually lasting no longer than 1 hr 15 minutes. This is currently my off season training with it changing every 10 weeks to lower the intensity and reps whilst increasing the weight and rest time. For cardio on the off season I walk on an incline for 30 minutes twice a week just to keep my cardiovascular system happy. However for pre-contest I will run anywhere between 30 minutes to 1 hour four times per week.
Q.3 How long have you been competing?
My first contest was in 2008 at the NABBA Mr and Miss Scotland and my second contest was the BNBF Scottish Qualifier in June.
Q.4 What are your main competitive achievements?
At the NABBA I placed 4th (highest placed natural in my category) and at the BNBF I placed second with an invite to the British Finals. Getting the invite was my goal for my first year in competition and I had achieved it.
Q.5 What are your current competitive goals?
The main critique was that I lacked some size but with good conditioning. Also I needed to bring out my legs a little more. So far I have been working hard to make good gains in size and pushing my legs as hard as I can. For next year I hope to take the Scottish Junior crown and go on to compete well at the British finals.
Q.6 Why do you feel you have been able to make continuous gains over the years?
With a well thought out training and nutrition program and consistent hard work.
Q.7 What supplements do you use?
Currently I am using Extreme Liquid Fury, Extreme Performance Protein, Creatine and Glutamine Supplements.
Q.8 How much do you feel supplements and sports nutrition help your training?
In my opinion supplements give you that little extra meaning you can make gains and recover a little fast. Fitting them into a carefully planned diet can give you that edge.
Q.9 What is it that motivates you through a hard session?
What motivates me is the want to win a British title and go on to become a top natural pro. A good mouthful of Liquid fury and a pumping tune on the iPod.
I’d like to say thanks to a few people:
I'd like to say thanks first of all to Doug Black from extreme nutrition for fueling my potential. To my training partners at the gym who push me far beyond what I think I can do sometimes. Donna Christie and Graeme Pyper for getting me started on the road to becoming a champion.
