Name Joanne Stanger
Age 24
Gym you train at and location: Bodyworks gym, Featherstone.
Q.1 Why did you start training and did you have any goals of competing to begin with?
I started training as a hobby and also to encourage and support a friend. I have always been aware of bodybuilding as a sport and always admired the way the athletes looked. I could definitely say I was inspired by them but I had not set myself any solid goals when I started training.
Q.2 What is your current training schedule like? How does it differ between pre-contest and off season? Do you do much cardio work?
a typical week for me would be:
Mon: Back
Tues: Chest
Wed: Hamstrings & Calves
Thurs: Shoulders
Fri: Quadriceps
Sat: Biceps & Triceps
Sun: Rest
I enjoy doing cardio work aiming to do 2/3 sessions 30 minutes low intensity per week off season. Pre-contest my schedule changes as my cardio is increased when my weight starts to plateau.
Q.3 How long have you been competing?
This year was my first year (of many to come).
Q.4 What are your main competitive achievements?
Competing this time for the first time has to be my main competitive achievement, placing 5th & 6th was a bonus.
Q.6 Who are your main sources of inspiration in your training and whose physiques do you most admire?
I do not admire any athlete imparticular, I do admire athletes who are aesthetically pleasing with good symmetry.
Q.7 What are your current competitive goals?
My aim for 2009 is to place higher (hopefully 3rd or 4th!!) than I previously did in 2008 in the Miss. Figure category.
Q.8 Why do you feel you have been able to make continuous gains over the years?
I feel that I have been able to make gains this year as my diet and training is a lot more structured than in the previous years, The intensity of my training has increased as I have been able to set myself goals for next years show.
Q.9 What supplements do you use?
At the moment I only supplement my diet with extreme nutrition Whey protein powder.
Q.10 How much do you feel supplements and sports nutrition help your training?
I think good nutrition is the key to good success and improvement. The supplements I use help me to get my optimum intake of protein I need they are also very convenient to take.
Q.11 What is it that motivates you through a hard session?
The thought of competing and being on stage motivates me through a tough session.
I’d like to say thanks to a few people:
I would like to thank Rach Grice and Shane Copley for dieting me down, supporting me and getting me in shape, I could not have done it without them. My family and friends for supporting me, Craig Chadwick for dieting with me, all those who came to support me from bodyworks gym in Featherstone and to Extreme Nutrition for supporting me.
