Q.1 Why did you start training and did you have any goals of competing to begin with?

I initially started training with weights at 16 just to tone up my body. I had no interest in bodybuilding until the age of 20.

Q.2 What is your current training schedule like? How does it differ between pre-contest and off season? Do you do much cardio work?

I currently train 5 nights a week
Monday – Biceps and tricep
Tuesday – Shoulders and hamstrings
Wednesday – Off
Thursday – Quads
Friday – Chest
Saturday – Back and Calve

I try to feel the muscle working with each rep with lots of triple drop sets, rest pause sets, etc. Pre contest I try to keep my training the same but reduce the rest in between sets.

Off season I usually do 4-5 cardio sessions lasting 30 minutes first thing in the morning. Pre contest this can go up to 2 lots of 60 minute sessions a day.

Q.3 How long have you been competing?

My first contest was the NABBA Wales First timers 2003 where I placed 1st in class 2 and 2nd overall.

Q.4 What are your main competitive achievements?

NABBA Wales 2003, 1st in class 2 and 2nd overall
NABBA Wales 2004, Novice 1st place
UKBFF Wales 2006, Intermediates over 80kgs, 1st place

UKBFF Wales 2008, Light-heavyweight 4th place

Q.6 Who are your inspirations to train?

My inspirations are: Arnold, Bob Paris, Dexter Jackson, Phil Heath, Flex Wheeler, Thierry Pastel, Flex Lewis

Q.7 What are your current competitive goals?

My current competitive goals are to win the UKBFF Wales Light-heavyweight class in 2010 and eventually UKBFF Wales overall and UKBFF Britain overall.

Q.8 Why do you feel you have been able to make continuous gains over the years?

I feel I have made steady gains over the years by being consistent in what I do. I train hard every week in the gym and eat seven times a day to get the right amount of carbs/proteins. I also try to have a life outside of bodybuilding to break up the monotony of this routine.

Q.9 What supplements do you use?

Supplements I currently use are Extreme Protein, Build & Recover for after training and Kr-Evolution caplets.

Q.10 How much do you feel supplements and sports nutrition help your training?

Nutrition is just as important as training. Supplements and sports nutrition are vital components when aiming to build muscle. In order to efficiently reap the benefits of hard training we need to consume enough quality carbs/proteins throughout the day. You cannot have one without the other. Missing a meal is just as detrimental to your goals as missing a workout.

Q.11 What is it that motivates you through a hard session?

During a hard session I am motivated by my desire to win my next competition and to push my body to the limit. I believe progress can only be made by going to failure on every set.

I’d like to say thanks to a few people:

My ex-girlfriend Jenna for supporting me 100% from day one, through the good and bad times.
My training partner Adrian for pushing and supporting me.
Neil Hill for his expertise and knowledge on contest conditioning.
Flex Lewis for being an inspiration to all young (Welsh) bodybuilders.
All others who have supported me along the way.
