| Q1. Why did
you start mixed martial arts and did you have any aspirations
to compete?
Well I always liked hurting people and mma gave me
an opportunity to do that and not get arrested. With
regards competing when I hooked up with the Dinky Ninja
Fight Team it was sort of the norm and so I went with
it.
Q2. What is your current training schedule
like?
The crappy thing about mma is that there are so many
aspects to train. Striking, wrestling, jiu jitsu, strength
and conditioning. So it comes down to prioritising your
weaker areas. At the minute i am paying a lot of attention
to my wrestling and strength work. Always train about
6- 9 times a week off season and about 12 times a week
when fighting.
Q3. What is your training split? What are your
thoughts on cardio, do you feel its essential all year?
The main bulk of my training is based around technique
and sparring. With regards conditioning I tend to prioritise
strength before cardio particularly in between fights,
its easy to make an explosive athlete fit than it is
to make a fit athlete explosive. My cardio tends to
come from hitting people and technique drills.
Q4. How long have you been competing?
Since I was 17, about 7 years, ahhh I used to be pretty
then and have normal looking ears.
Q5. What are your main competitive achievements?
Winning the Cagewarriors world title at skinny girl
weight (61.2kg) and defending it successfully. Won 3
British titles and a few Scottish titles as well. Once
won a bucking bronco competition vs. a bunch of fighters
from Ireland that’s defiantly up there.
Q6. What weight are you off season and at contest
time?
I cut about 4-6kg the week before a match so i am normally
a “massive” 65-67kg. At the weigh in im61.2kg
for ten minutes and then 24hrs later I can be 64-65kg
for the fight.
Q7. What are your current competitive goals?
Fighting on the Power of Scotland 2 show at Braehead
Arena on March the 4th which should be fun don’t
get to compete in Scotland that much anymore. Long term
I want to get some fights in Japan that was my goal
from the start we have been close a few times but in
the end it always fell through.
Q8. Why do you feel you have been able to make
continuous gains over the years?
The majority of my gains have come in the way of improving
my technical proficiency, every 3 months i am better
than I was in every range striking, wrestling and jiu
jitsu. But what’s helped me the most this year
has definitely been in following a structured and periodised
strength and conditioning program. I feel I am now the
biggest, strongest and most attractive fighter in the
bantamweight division.
Q9. What supplements do you use?
I use Extreme Nutrition supplements because Dougie
Black told me too ?. I use extreme protein in the morning
mixed with water, oats, peanuts, flaxseed oil and raspberries,
Extreme build and recover after workouts and I pop glutamine
complex and Kre-alkylyn throughout the day like smarties.
Q10. How much do you feel supplements and nutrition
help your training?
Its hella important. If i am not eating right or missing
meals I tend to crash and be too knackered to train
then I eat crap and feel like a steaming bag of excrement.
When my nutrition and supplementation is good I train
better and get more productive workouts done with less
effort.
Q11. What is it that motivates you through
a gruelling workout?
The fact that if I don’t do it somebody who has
is going to bash me.
Q12. Who, if anyone, do you want to thank over
the years for their help?
The Dinky Ninja Fight Team who have trained me, beaten
me up and removed from me every shred of ego and dignity
I had, all the while turning me into a passable competitor.
Cagewarriors and Doug Truman for giving me a platform
to compete against high level opponents. Doug Black
for the sweet supplement hook ups
