Paul George

Paul George
Paul owns Olympic Gym in Manchester, his years of experience of training and dieting are passed on to his members and personal training clients. For pleasure Paul rides a rather large motorcycle and collects swords, daggers and skulls, not the house to break into unless you want to become part of the collection!

Paul started training in 1981 and he entered his first contest in 1982. He entered the Walter O'Malley Spring Classic, by his own admission he came 11th out of 10!! Decided to take 10 years off for some more practice. as you'll see the 10 year lay off did him the world of good, the following contest history shows he learned his trade well in that time.

Why did you start training?
I started training to improve my rugby game, I needed to be heavier.

What's your favourite body part to train?
Legs & Back, I love the intensity and the heavy weights.

What's your least favourite body part to train?
I don't have one, I just love everything about training.

What's your off season diet like?
Lots of basic food stuffs', very few sweet things. I avoid all processed and packaged foods. I eat fairly clean year round, and very rarely drink any form of alcohol.

What would you eat if you were to cheat?
Home-made cookies and Ben & Jerry's ice cream.

Give us a break down of you average daily food intake?
I eat 5-6 small meals a day, I'm not a big eater so I have to supplement. My staple diet consists of: Fresh tuna Steaks, Fresh sword fish steaks, Chicken, Turkey, Extreme Protein & Whey. For carbs I tend to stick to cous cous, shredded wheat & tinned grapefruit.

What's your training regime like?
For contest preparation I do a 4 day split routine. Off season I train 3 days per week.
4 day Split:
Quads & Calves, Back & Shoulders, Off, Chest & Arms, Hams & Calves
3 day routine:
Chest, Back & Shoulders, Quads, Calves & Hams, Biceps, Triceps & Calves
Is it true that you like to train with seriously heavy weights?
Well my best lifts to date are: Squats 616lbs for 6 reps
Bench Press 440lbs for 1 lift
Deadlifts 606lbs for 1 lift
Machine Squat 1100lbs for 6 lifts
Machine Shoulder Press 264lbs per side for 3 lifts
This year I would like to squat 7 plates a side (660lbs) for reps, I'd also like to see my deadlift reach 650 lbs and my bench 450 lbs.
